The Sin of the Flesh

Have you ever considered how sin came into the world and overtook man? And in your thought, do you blame Eve?

I have done so a few times in the past. I had blamed Eve for being the cause of so many unpleasant things we experience today.

Imagine a world free from sin, menstrual cramps, child labour, accident, sickness, suffering, and death.

Who wouldn’t love that kind of life?

In the past, when I thought of these, I remembered Eve and sighed. Oh! Eve brought these upon us because of disobedience.

But Eve is gone, and her mistakes can’t be undone.

God gave Adam and Eve an instruction, but along the line, they disobeyed God. This disobedience affected generations unborn.

Nevertheless, a plan B was enacted through a reconciliation route called Salvation.

Man was once again redeemed through the precious blood of Jesus Christ and not of animals. But this time, this Gift came with another Gift called the COMFORTER. The Comforter is the Holy Spirit, who conquers the flesh when we allow Him to take the lead in our lives.

The sin of the flesh includes; disobedience to God, ungratefulness, sexual immorality (fornication and adultery), lies (exaggeration), wickedness, violence, unforgiveness, hatred, envy, evil imagination, etc.

Romans 1: 29 – 31, Galatians 5: 19 – 21, Colossians 3: 5 – 9.

The power of the depraved nature of man is stronger than the will of man. To overcome the flesh, we need a total overhaul by the Spirit of God, whose power is stronger than the flesh when given a chance.

The Spirit of God has the potential to reconfigure the mind and lead it to healthy thoughts.

The seed of disobedience from Adam and Eve gave birth to most of the problems that are faced by mankind.

And if we don’t take advantage of the gift of the Holy Spirit to be led by Him, we will make mistakes that can cause problems for us or the generations to come, just like Eve.

You and I need to stop with the blame game that points to Eve’s disobedience and start living a life that will bring about blessings to us and the generations to come.

Not all mistakes will be in the past. Some mistakes go to our future to wait for us.

We can subdue the sin of the flesh by allowing ourselves to be overcome by the Spirit of God.
