Silencing Other Voices and Mastering The Voice of God

There is a profound quote which reads thus: “just because you aren’t hearing doesn’t  mean God isn’t speaking.” This quote alludes to the truth that God speaks. He didn’t go on a leave of absence or vacation neither has He or will He resign from speaking to His children.

And if you are still in the phase of discovering how God speaks, or you are still challenged with getting Him speak to you, or desiring to come to a level of having a conversation with God then this article is worth the read.

Self development and personal growth  is essential for everyone, but it will interest you to note that personal growth and self development skills are not the yardstick to measure your relationship with God.

Silencing other Voices

Living a life of purpose is a daily struggle to overcome distractions which have been inserted into our reality to try to hinder us from maximising the potentials in our destiny. Increasing our ability to hear and perceive divine direction via mastering the voice of God is a Fail-Safe method to ensure that we live a very purposeful and fulfilling life. In this struggle we must master the art of silencing the noise of these distractions.

We have all been on the spot where we had to choose between convenience and inconvenience, love and hatred, calmness and agitation, humility and pride, instant action and procrastination, peace and retaliation, obedience and disobedience, honesty and dishonesty, wait and rush, fear and faith.

Those moments were the moments that defined us either in a positive or negative way.

Gaining mastery over the voice of distraction is strongly dependant on the answers to these questions:

*Who are you?

*What are your needs?

*Will the aftermath of your decision yield peace or regret?

*Will this decision make you better?

*Does it gladden God’s heart?

You were created in the image and likeness of God which means you are a little god. You have the will-power to think, say, choose and do whatever you want to.

Mastering the Voice of God

I remember how my siblings and I could decode the sound of our Dad’s car from a little distance away from the house. Looking back through memory lane, I wonder and smile at how we mastered the sound of his car without the horn. We all knew the sound because we were used to the sound the car makes whenever it was driven in or out.

Getting used to or familiar with how something is done makes you a master to that thing with time.

You don’t master the Voice of God in the place of prayer or worship alone but in the place of obedience.

When people complain of not hearing from God or not knowing when He speaks, it is usually one of the following  reasons. It is either they have no relationship yet with Him, or they have resisted Him on several occasions that has made Him quiet towards them.

I have heard people who in their words show interest in knowing and hearing from God but find it tasking to do the things that unlock the treasure of the voice of God they seek. You cannot separate God from His Word and Spirit. Mastering the voice of God first begins with you mastering His Word and Spirit. You will have to press on consistently to read His written word.

The 3 Keys to Your Treasure

There are three keys you need to unlock the treasure you need and these keys are within your reach: (i) constant alone fellowship with Him which entails reading His word, meditating on His word, and praying, (ii) obedience to His written word, and (iii) apt response in obedience when He speaks.

As you practise these steps using the 3 keys, you will be able to discern and accurately pick when God speaks and also rise above and silence other voices contrary to God’s voice.
