I listened to a life video of a remarkable and seasoned woman of God, Debola Deji-Kurunmi. During that short power-packed session, she briefly highlighted why we have coaches with alot of chaos. According to her, the reason is because they lack self-leadership.
After the life session, I took some time to digest all that she said and ask myself some questions. One of the questions was: Why do people lack self-leadership?
Self-leadership is the act of being able to lead oneself. You can only know how to lead yourself when you have the knowledge and truth about who you are, which encompasses your strengths, weaknesses, purpose, and desires. It also includes being able to influence your own thoughts and actions more efficiently to achieve high productivity and life satisfaction.
Leadership is a process. It doesn’t just come. You have to intentionally build it in yourself if you must live a life of purpose and intent.
Building leadership skills is not primarily for others to be led by you; it is for your benefit. You build through discipline by taking control of your time, desires, and influences.
Self-leadership cannot be built in the absence of self-control/discipline.
We need discipline in all spheres of life: as students, career women, wives, mothers, in ministry, coaches, or leaders.
As a student, your career outcome is dependent on your level of discipline today. This includes discipline in attending/listening to lectures during lecture time, reading and researching, etc.
There are little things that can crumble a beautiful, peaceful home once discipline goes on vacation.
Not all expressions or words are worth displaying during a disagreement or misunderstanding. Silence can save a marriage from sinking.
You can’t desire growth in God’s grace and ministry without discipline. You must be consistent in reading the Bible, praying, engaging in spiritual exercise, and, more importantly, obeying God’s Word and His spirit.
Indiscipline has caused havoc in marriage, organisations, politics, the church, and individuals. It has a negative impact on personal well-being and can lead to poor decision-making, impulsive actions, poor performance, and poor productivity.
As a believer and disciple of Jesus Christ, self-control is one of the fruits to have at all times. Galatians 5:22-23.
Discipline is one of the cardinal fruits of the spirit, and it indicates one’s intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
When you can control what influences you, your actions and reactions, stay focused, maintain balance with strong work ethics, etc., you can start building leadership.
Some of the spiritual wars many Christians fight needed just one thing…Discipline.
Self-leadership is a skill to acquire to avoid a life of chaos, and it can only be acquired when you master the key of discipline.
Self-leadership has a price and the price is called Discipline.
