Emotional or mental pain is an introspective experience of negative emotions such as fears, despair, stress, anxiety, grief, anger, regret, identity crisis, purpose crisis, shame, guilt, loss, and loneliness. Most times when the cause of pain is not dealt with it can lead to depression and even be amplified to physical pain.
As humans, we have all felt one or even all of these negative emotions. Some of us have been able to overcome and also found a way to overcome these negative emotions when it comes. Some others haven’t and may still be struggling through these storms.
That you aren’t experiencing any of these emotional pain at the moment does make it invalid to others or even to you because we are all humans in this pilgrim journey.
There are days when we feel so hurt that it seems like there is no solution.
There are days when even the merry scents cannot lift your spirits because you can’t even take a breath.
Those times you feel so lost that you believe that no one can find you because of the emotional or mental pain you’re going through.
For most people during such times you hear them cry out “God help me.”
That one is a child of God is not an automatic pass for a negative emotional free life. The Bible being a guide has in it great men and women of God who also experienced pain.
Hannah experienced pain of shame, anger, loneliness because of childlessness.
Elijah experienced his own share of pain because of anxiety and fear of Jezebel.
Joseph experienced pain of rejection
Naomi had her own share of pain as a result of grief and loss.
Even our Lord Jesus experienced pain of sorrow and loneliness on his way to the cross.
The list goes on and on which makes us understand we are not alone in this.
Dear friend, in that moment of pain, always know that; God is fully aware of what is happening around and within you, and He is closer to you more than you ever can imagine.
Sometimes pain is God’s desperate longing at your heart. If you can see it this way, then you can come out of it more victorious.
Most of the time, it serves, not to bring us the solution we think we need but a wholesome rekindling of our closeness to God and understanding of His will for us.
Another beauty of pain is that God uses it to build empathy in us so that when we have been comforted, we will be able to comfort others who will experience the same. It serves as a teaching and learning tool.
It also works out wonderful virtues in us. Such as;
- Absolute faith and trust in God
- Deep understanding and love for anyone in need.
- Ability to find joy even in chaos.
- Deeper understanding of God’s heart and Works. Etc
God is strongest at our weakest.
He is most loving at our worst moments.
He is most present at our breaking point.
He never neglects anyone who comes to Him.
All we need to do is: Call on Him, Trust Him, Wait on Him, and Praise Him.
He never fails nor disappoints.
