Money is a weapon that can defend and as well as a weapon of silence most of the problems of life. Little wonder why the book of Ecclesiastes has a brief but powerful introduction and summary about money.
We often quote these scriptures ‘money answereth all things and money is a defense.’ Ecclesiastes 7:12, 10:19.
You see this asset called money, it has destroyed relationships and has also mended and bonded relationships. Financial freedom is a necessity for everyone, especially children of God.
Nevertheless, money without wisdom is similar to one who writes an exam without adequate preparation. Such a one who fails to plan will fail woefully.
Ecclesiastes 7:12, firstly recorded that wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
And one of this wisdom that is needed in terms of money is stated in Psalm 15:5.
- He that putteth not out His money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
What Is The Meaning Of Usury?
Usury is the action or practice of lending money at unreasonably high rates of interest.
The Bible condemns the practice of charging interest on a poor person because a loan should be an act of compassion and taking care of one’s neighbor. It teaches that making a profit off a loan from a poor person is exploiting that person. Exodus 22:25-27.
Usury is also being connected with bribery. Bribe is a dishonest persuasion by someone to act in one’s favor by a gift of money or other inducements.
In some parts of the world, usury and bribery is the norm and even practice amongst those who call themselves believers of Christ. This is contrary to the law of God.
Judas Iscariot is generally detested by everyone because of his role and the act he played towards selling our Lord Jesus. But many who detest Judas are Judases.
Have you taken a reward from another just to speak ill of another? The reward may be in cash or kind. This is to let you know that you’re a Judas. God abhors you and you must repent.
The Bible concludes by telling us ‘he who lives by the law of God shall not be moved.’
Such a one abides with God steadfastly and God will her shield, strength, portion, deliverer, shelter, strong tower, a very present help in times of need.
