Why Is Temperance Important?

Have you ever heard this “whatsoever a man sows he will reap?”
If he sows good, he will reap good and if he sows bad, he will reap bad.
Let’s ponder on the bad a man sows.

The next question that should be running through your mind now is ‘why will someone choose to sow bad seed?’

From the part of the world where I grew up, when someone acts in an unruly and undisciplined way like stealing, immorality, frivolous lifestyle, being stubborn, wasteful, etc The society blames it on either parents, environment, or spiritual attack.
No one blames it on the individual.

While the above cannot be ruled out, the truth that is always silenced is the choice of that individual. We are a product of our choices and not necessarily our parents, environment, or the devil.

One’s lack of temperance is the seed sown that always gives birth to struggles, pain, regrets and failure.

What is Temperance?
Temperance is simply defined as moderation or voluntary self-restraint. It is typically described in terms of what an individual voluntarily refrains from doing. Moderation in action, thought or feeling.

Temperance is moderation in self-restraint; most people refer to this as self-control. Temperance is very important in almost everything you do. Eating, spending money, time management, etc.

The importance of temperance in one’s life is that it prevents what the world refers to as bad karma which sooner or later haunts and returns to the unrestrained.

Esau, the son of Isaac, exchanged his birthright for a place for porridge because he lacked temperance.
Eve gave in to the words of the serpent because, as she looked at the fruit over and over again she couldn’t control her appetite anymore. She ate and died(spiritually).

In the next article, we will discuss how to develop temperance.
